Empresa: Alice
Opening Letter By Matheus Moraes Hey, I'm opening a position at Alice to work with me. The title of the job is Chief of Staff to the COO. I hate it. The reason I hate it is that there are two titles in one. I don't really like calling myself anything (not because it's not cool), but mainly because it's limiting. That's the same reason I don't like Chief of Staff. This already says a lot about who I'm looking for. I want someone hungry, not pruned to a basic career path, who will not be limited by a job title, and who will give all it takes when the mission is beyond great. And oh gosh, our mission is great. At Alice, we exist to make the world healthier, with every single fiber of our bodies and souls. Every member we add counts. They matter as if they are the people you most love and adore. I say this from experience. My parents are Alice members, my wife is a member, and my daughter is an Alice member. Our business model is complex, but to simplify, we are a B2B health insurance company with a proprietary care model. It includes primary care (digital and in-person), which we built from scratch, a very integrated health community built with partners, and a tech stack that most could only dream of. Google to find out more. The hard part of our job is everything. Selling, caring, managing risk, everything. There are no easy deeds. Every day is a hustle. So why do we do it? Because it matters. We're changing the healthcare system in Brazil. If what you just read excites you and makes you want to get crazy and start working (like I do), apply. I'll personally filter applications and run the hiring process (with some logistical help, of course). During the interview process, you'll be given the chance to talk to people who live our day-to-day virtues and believe in our cause. It's great to understand if you'll love the culture. Also, I'll provide you with the contact of people who have worked with me in the past and are not at Alice, so you can get a grasp of how I am as a manager and leader. Below, you can find more details about what the job is and what I'm looking for. Dare to believe in yourself. Beijo na alma, Matheus The Job The Chief of Staff (CoS) to the COO's job is to make Alice great at executing our strategy. You'll need to navigate multiple chapters and alliances to ensure planning cycles are always incredible and every team is hitting their business goals afterward. The CoS will also lead strategic initiatives that will make our teams more extraordinary and engaged, and our operations as efficient as a perfect machine. Loving governance is a must because you'll hold a lot of people accountable. To excel in this position, you should be comfortable with analytical work, have great communication skills (or at least like to talk about work), and know when to lead by influence and when to simply execute a clear directive. It's kind of obvious, but it doesn't hurt to say that you should be passionate about our mission. Your Role • Get stuff done by leading and managing strategic projects and special initiatives. • Make every planning cycle beautiful. • Support the COO in building great teams and unleashing their potential. • Enhance operational governance across departments, identifying and addressing inefficiencies to improve productivity. • Act as a crucial communication bridge between the COO, managers, and the broader organization, fostering a culture of transparency and trust. • Support the COO in making informed, data-driven operational and strategic decisions, using tools like Metabase and our data cloud to validate numbers and sanity-check analysis. • Coordinate high-priority meetings and events, ensuring efficient communication and progress tracking, and reading the room well enough to know when to speak and when to hold back. Our Expectations of a Strong Candidate • Raw intelligence is non-negotiable. Lacking context or technical knowledge is fine, you'll learn it on the job. Lacking horsepower is not something we can teach. • AI Fluency is mandatory. Hability to use fluidly, with reasoning and intention, different AI tools to improve excellence, eficiency and/or escalability. • Enough analytical fluency to use Metabase and our data cloud to sanity-check a number and catch what's off, not necessarily to build the model from scratch. • Mental toughness. Emotion is human and welcome here, this isn't a cold place, but it can't take over every interaction or stall the work. You need to hold composure under pressure and in high-stakes rooms. • Judgment about the room. You'll sit in sessions with very senior, very sharp people. Knowing when to jump in and when to simply execute a clear directive matters more than always having an opinion to offer. • Have tons of energy and a positive spirit (you'll need it). • Have a track record of getting things done, fast and beautifully. • Be passionate about healthcare, team development, and operational excellence. Personal Traits That Can Help in the Role • A "master generalist" with the capability to manage both strategic and operational tasks. • Humility, strong leadership (not given by hierarchy), problem-solving skills under pressure, and excellent communication abilities. • Commitment to Alice's mission and virtues, embodying our core virtues in daily operations. The Arc of This Role This isn't a job meant to hold you forever, and that's by design. The pace we expect: ramp up in about three months, perform at a high level for another nine to twelve, then move into your next chapter at Alice, often into an operational leadership track like Ops Manager. Think of it as a launchpad, not a holding pattern. Compensation • We do our very best to compensate competitively. • We always make our best offer. • We don't negotiate (this is good for you).
